For those of you not familiar with the Simon’s Town line, this is actually entirely reasonable. In places, the railway line runs right next to the beach; with a spring tide and a heavy storm surge, the sea can wash right over the tracks.

I heard that the train tracks are actually damaged due to the storms. Apparently the little walk way between the rail way line and the sea is also damaged.
Rather impressive storm that.
I think they are damaged – I live right by the railway in Rosebank, and the last two nights I’ve seen the maintenance train running down southwards.
